The EDP team participated at the Zambia Entrepreneurship Summit (ZES) held on 14th May 2019 under the theme ‘Entrepreneurship & Innovation: The Future Now, Leaving No One Behind’. The event attracted over 1,000 businesses, investors and lenders, and organised by the American Chamber of Commerce, WE CREATE Zambia, Atlas Mara and Hivos.
The team had a chance to interact with other entrepreneurs across various sectors. Our exhibition table was visited by a total of 140 entrepreneurs
In his opening remarks, the American Ambassador to Zambia H.E. Daniel L. Foote said entrepreneurs are the drivers of the economy. The purpose of the event was to create an environment where SMEs are able to connect with investors, lenders, entrepreneurship resources and empowerment organizations in a bid to provide business solutions to the many challenges faced by Zambian entrepreneurs.
Ambassador Foote indicated that, the American embassy has partnered with WE CREATE and Bongo Hive to establish an Academy for Entrepreneurs which will be launched soon. The Academy will endeavour to carter SMEs across the Zambia.
Meanwhile, Government has reiterated its commitment to creating an enabling environment for SMEs across the country as they provide solutions for socio-economic challenges. In his keynote address, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Honourable Christopher Yaluma applauded the American Chamber for hosting the summit which complements Governments’ efforts to harness entrepreneurs adding that the theme of the summit resonates with Zambia’s 7th National Development Plan’s tagline, ‘no one be left behind in the fight for socio-economic development’.
Lastly, a networking opportunity with other exhibitors resulting in knowledge sharing and exchange of ideas for collaborative interventions to ensure efforts are not duplicated.
